Mission Statement

The Friends of the Madera County Library advocates for, and assists in supporting Madera County Library programs and services, which collect, preserve, enhance, and build on the educational, societal, historical, and cultural foundations of our community, ensuring information access for all.

MEETINGS

We meet on the first and third Thursday of every month at 6pm (except for July and December). FMCL meetings are held in the Madera County Library and are open to all members as well as parties interested in joining our group. New members are very much welcomed and appreciated.

Libraries were not close to my house in elementary school. My home library was one at my school. But, in high school, a bookmobile would park on the corner of my street, where I could pick up as many books as I wanted.

Everyone should explore the plentiful resources at the library to become an informed citizen and more knowledgeable about the world!

I was probably in 6th grade when our class went on a field trip to the Mariposa County Library. At first, I was intrigued by the history of the library. Then I saw all the books! What wonderful knowledge was within those walls!

Why is the Madera County Public Library important to our community?

The library has something for everyone and continues to add to its programs and collection of items. We are so fortunate to be able to request, and have delivered, items from other libraries.

In elementary school, we spent a lot of time with our librarian, Mrs. Holland, who would read to us. I remember she had a cute habit of saying “sh” several times during each sentence.
